Hey Calgary! It’s your fave city uncover-ers, kicking off a new weekly feature! We’re gonna be highlighting the most amazing communities in YYC. Whether you live nearby or you’re just popping in, we’ll give you the rundown on how to make the most of your time in the area. Now, before further ado– here’s our Neighborhood Guide of the week!

To start things off on a hot note, we’ve chosen none other than the beautiful Bowness! As a classic Calgary neighbourhood, this part of the city is a great place to spend a Sunday. With the river wrapping all around, and tons of incredible local businesses to check out, you’ll be shocked at how easy it is to kill a day exploring!

Explore Mainstreet

Start the day off trekking through the iconic Village in the Valley! Grab yourself a coffee from Cadence Superfine Coffee, an adorable diner-esque spot. Once you’ve got your bean juice and you’re feeling fueled up, the shopping can begin. Check out a few of the shops on Mainstreet such as Light Cellar, a shop completely dedicated to superfoods. Grab yourself one of their made-in-house chocolate bars, and avoid the guilt associated. Remember, superfoods are healthy.

Grab some patio time

Next up, hit the pet-friendly patio at Leopold’s Tavern. Grab yourself a delicious breakfast sandy and a Caesar– everyone’s favourite Sunday drink. Once you feel like you’ve filled up on as much Clamato as you possibly can, it’s time to soak up the sun and explore the river on some kayaks! (Yes, we’re being optimistic about the weather. Enjoy the neature

Head over to Bowness Park, pick up your crew, and grab yourself a raft rental through The Paddle Station. This no-hassle rental house is the perfect place to get yourself set up for a day of cruising down the river. Or, check out The University of Calgary Outdoor Centre, located right in Bowness Park for kayak, canoe, and paddle boat rentals. This park has a large list of great spots to launch off from, so it really just depends where you’re looking to explore that day!

Embrace the nostalgia

Last up, we think you’ve earned yourself a milkshake. After all, kayaking can be quite the workout. Good thing Angel’s Drive-In is serving up some of the best frozen diner treats in the city! We also suggest ordering a basket of fries as well, because what’s better than dipping french fries in your shake? That’s right, nothing. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a car show or a band playing on the roof.

If it wasn’t clear already, Bowness is a must-hit spot in the city. It supports a wide range of businesses, from popular restaurants to unique service shops to nighttime hangouts. And though the area has history dating back to the 40s, the small town vibes are truly timeless. We dare you to spend your spring or summer weekend here Calgs– it’ll be one you don’t forget!
