Decem-BURR: Calgary could break a 100-year-old weather record next week

We don’t like being the bearer of bad news – but something wicked this way comes. As reported by the Weather Network, Calgary is in for one heck of a December with a chilling forecast of below-average temperatures.

Hand warmers at the ready, because according to the Weather Network, a “major pattern change” is in the works – and it’s not looking pretty!

As we near the end of November, Albertans are in for an uncomfortable start to the season with Calgary projected to face its coldest December 1st since 1919, when it was -21.1°C.

“With a daytime high of -21°C currently forecast for Calgary’s airport next Thursday, December 1, this would be the coldest daytime high in over 100 years for this date,” says Kelly Sonnenburg, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.

Of course, this is only the beginning!

“Temperatures through the overnight hours will bottom out closer to -28°C next week, but feeling like the minus 30s,” they continued.

“While some overnight low temperatures in early November have already dipped down into the -20s, temperatures near -28°C haven’t been felt since the beginning of January 2022.”

As always, we’ll just have to wait and see – but please, stay warm, stay safe and get ready.

It’s going to be a frosty month.
