It’s almost that time again, YYC! Canada Day is hot on our heels and with restrictions having been lifted just in time to celebrate, many are wondering what public events the city has planned. This year, while Mayor Nenshi did say to take precautions and took time to remind us that masks will still be required indoors, Calgary does have a few exciting and totally safe things on its itinerary.

For those of you who would prefer to stay in or just throw it back and feel like a kid again, the city will have 10,000 at-home kits available for pick up starting June 24th.

From sidewalk chalk and bubbles to beach balls and puzzles, these totally FREE Canada day bags can be picked up at any Calgary Public Library in the city until they run out.

In addition to this, CJSW will present ‘Canada in Stereo,’ a 17-hour showcase of local and Canadian talent from every musical genre and age group.

This will be broadcast to air until around 11 PM when Calgary can tune in for a program better heard with a visual aid and what could be better than a fireworks display!

Unlike last year, 2021 will see an explosive show high above the inner city once again – however, before you rush you set up your lawn chair in Prince’s Island, it’s important to note that Calgary has chosen to move its presentation to a new location. One where people could be a little more spaced out.

Visible from almost everywhere in the city, Nenshi will push the big red button from Tom Campbell Hill on the North end of the Bow River.

Happy Canada Day, YYC!
