Calgary ‘s Naheed Nenshi shared his last mayoral message on IG & it’s incredibly wholesome

With today’s municipal election, Naheed Nenshi concludes his third and final term as Calgary’s mayor, leaving us with a short goodbye, a whole lot of gratitude, and a reminder to vote on his social media accounts.

“Thank you for these last 11 years,” he says in a video posted this week.

“Thank you for taking a risk on me and thank you for taking a risk on a different, better future.”

Now, while he was seemed eager to give us the warm fuzzies – many Calgarians actually beat him to it – sending him a ton of love on Twitter, sharing stories, and posting photos on his last day.

Elected in 2010, Nenshi was Canada’s first Muslim mayor and was actually named the best in the world in 2014.

Born in Toronto and raised in Calgary, he received his Bachelor of Commerce from the U of C in 1993 and completed a Master’s in Public Policy at Harvard before starting his own consulting firm that aimed to help non-profit, private and public sector organizations grow.

Now, after an impressive run as Calgary’s frontman, it seems he’s turning his focus to new things; leaving his political career behind for good – but with a crucial message.

“Make sure you go and vote! Make sure you cast your ballot for a great vision of the future of this city – but let’s make sure we also do the work. That we continue to use our everyday hands, our everyday hearts and in these dark times especially, our everyday voices,” he said.
