Calgary is getting a brand-new Fairmont hotel and here’s what we know so far

Calgary just can’t stop building new hotels — earlier this month, Truman and Marriott broke ground on a new 14-storey, 320-key hotel in the revitalized Culture + Entertainment District. Now, the city is following those plans up with another major announcement.

On Jan. 22, Fairmont Hotel & Resorts, alongside Alberta-owned company Truman, announced the development of a new 225-key hotel in Calgary’s downtown. It’s slated to start hosting guests in 2031, offering beautifully appointed rooms and a luxury spa, alongside events and meeting space.

Calgary is a hot market for hotels, and developers are keen to start building. Fairmont is a direct beneficiary of the Stampede Park transformation project — a major push to evolve Stampede Park into a thriving Culture + Entertainment District, backed by the $500-million expansion of BMO Centre.

BMO Centre is now Western Canada’s largest convention facility, and all of those visitors to Calgary need somewhere to stay.

“Adding a second property in this flourishing city where the beloved Fairmont Palliser currently resides will be a significant achievement, and reinforces Fairmont’s leadership position in Western Canada, as well as strengthens our long-term brand commitment to Calgary as a destination,” said Omer Acar, CEO of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, in a press release. “Fairmont Calgary will become an exciting new social hub for the local community, hotel guests and residents alike, blending both tradition and modernity.”

While not too many details have been shared yet, here’s everything we know so far about the new build.

Investment in Calgary’s future

The future of Calgary has been bright lately. Without peering into a crystal ball, we can safely say that things will only continue to look up.

“This investment underscores our shared confidence in Calgary’s future,” said George Trutina, president of Truman. “Fairmont Calgary will contribute meaningfully to the city’s economy, vibrancy, and its growing reputation as a global destination for business, tourism, and luxury living.”

But there’s more to ponder on the horizon for Alberta’s Blue Sky City. This hotel project will bring together a world-class team of architects and designers to create a mixed-use building, combining a luxury Fairmont hotel with branded residences. It’s a bold strategy, and a welcome one at that — especially for a city that’s in desperate need of density.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is renowned as an international luxury hospitality brand, with an unrivalled portfolio of 96 hotels — including the Fairmont Palliser in downtown Calgary. The announcement of this new hotel today only adds another feather to their cap.

According to a press release from Fairmont Hotel & Resorts, Calgary enjoyed more than 8.7 million visitors in 2025 — generating significant economic activity beyond the city’s annual Calgary Stampede, which is dubbed “The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth.” The new project will bring additional economic benefits, triggering job opportunities in construction and hospitality once open.

With more hotels on the way, Calgary will only continue to shine as one of the top cities to live, work and play in Western Canada. Saddle up!
