Can you feel it, YYC? The warmer air, the sun, that all-mighty “ahhh” feeling? Patio season is just around the corner but with restrictions in place, what could that look like in 2021? Well, the City of Calgary has just made an announcement regarding exactly that and we’re happy to report that it was full of good news!

According to a news release sent out this morning, the city will, yet again, extend support to businesses affected by the pandemic by allowing patios on public land.

This means that with a simple application, bars, restaurants and even some shops may set up seating on sidewalks and in parking lots to serve more customers safely without having to worry about capacity effective sales.

Last year, this pilot program helped over 100 businesses across Calgary, but that’s hardly even the best part. These permits are totally free and will even take effect earlier than they did in 2020 (official date TBD).

It won’t be long until we’re drinking beer, wearing flip-flops and enjoying the weather and patio season once again. What a life.
