It’s official: Calgary is the best place to live in Canada

Take that, Edmonton! Global Citizen Solutions just released its list of the best places to live in Canada in 2025, with Calgary in the number one spot.

More than just our sunny weather makes Calgary an idyllic place to call home. Calgary was listed as one of the best places to live and work, offering affordability, a high quality of life, and plenty of employment opportunities.

In 2024, it was ranked the fifth most liveable city in the world, along with the sixth best place in Canada to live and work in 2025.

Canada is known among the top 10 of the world’s most desirable places for digital nomads due to its stable financial market, vivid history and political stability.

Why you should live in Calgary

Calgary was listed as one of the biggest employers in the country, providing employment opportunities in business services, international trade, hospitality, construction, natural resources and manufacturing. The average salary in Calgary is a healthy $58,243 a year, with home prices sitting at $635,903.

Living costs are moderate, with average monthly expenses for a single person (excluding rent) at $1,581. And with rent prices falling, things are continuing to look up.

In addition to living costs, high-quality health care, low crime rates, and reduced taxes contribute to overall livability. Calgary also has one of the largest education systems in Canada.

Calgary’s proximity to the Rocky Mountains is nothing to shake a stick at, either. Outdoor recreation is big inside the city and out, with plenty of opportunities to hike, ski and paddle nearby.

The Global Citizen Solutions report also notes Calgary’s warm and friendly atmosphere. It seems more than just Canadians are noticing our knack for Alberta-signature hospitality.

So whether you’re new to the city or your presence here is intergenerational, there’s plenty in Calgary worth writing home about.
