Biggest & brightest of the year: A rare blue Supermoon will shine over Canada this week

In the summertime, there’s nothing sweeter than a little moonshine – of the visible variety, of course! Whether you’re a Jr. Astronomer, a photographer or in need of a romantic date idea, look up for a magical blue supermoon that will light the night this week.

Set to light the night of August 30th, 2023 stars will appear dim, but you’ll have front-row seats to an event that, according to the Almanac, will not occur for another 14 years.

A term probably more common than its origin, a Blue Moon refers to the second full moon in a single month – and on Wednesday it’ll be extra special.

Not only will this Blue Moon be brilliant, but it’ll also be the largest and brightest of 2023 – orbiting just 357,344 km from our home planet.

When this happens, it’s what we affectionately call a ‘supermoon,’ and duper it’ll be!

Easier to photograph and incredibly romantic, this late-summer gift will look approximately 7% bigger at its peak, and you won’t want to miss it.

To see it in all its glory, point your peepers upward at 9:37 pm EDT and don’t forget to take some photos!

It’ll be a long while until we see something like this will happen again!
