Need a fun road trip idea for the long weekend coming up? Consider heading just south of Revelstoke to Blanket Creek Park – an ideal summer destination for families, day trippers, and locals alike.

Complete with a man-made swimming lagoon, adventure playground, an extensive network of hiking and cycling trails, a historic homestead site, and easy access to Sutherland Falls – there are more than enough outdoor activities and natural wonders to go around.

All in all, the park’s campground features 105 sites, including 7 double sites nestled in the lush forest. Amenities here include a sani station, flush washrooms, showers, and firewood – though the campfire ban in BC is still in effect for now.

As for swimming, the fresh-flowing warm water lagoon has a diameter of 60 metres and a depth of around 2.5 metres in the middle – perfect for swimmers of all ages. Plus, it has a ring of sandy beaches to lounge at.

The stunning Sutherland Falls also happens to be one of the most accessible falls in the Kootenay region, and the park is one of few located along the Arrow Lake Reservoir where the natural features are protected.

Note that bears have often been attracted to the area due to the remaining fruit trees at the orchards of early settlers. Be sure to read up on wildlife safety guidelines before your visit, and keep pets on a leash at all times.

So there you have it, BC! Another fantastic provincial park to add to your summer itinerary.
