Washington has been home to all sorts of celebrities both modern and in times past. One of those celebrities happens to have been Betty MacDonald, the author of the children’s series “Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.” It turns out her Vashon Island home has been opened and turned into The Betty MacDonald Farm.

MacDonald also authored “The Egg & I”, “Onions in the Stew”, and “Nancy & Plum.” Her humorous autobiographical tales garnered her lots of popularity among American readers and ultimately left her with a legacy of being one of the most accomplished humorists of her era.

What’s more, those books were written on her farm on Vashon Island. That means you can book a stay and see where the inspiration for the tales came from. The farm boasts six acres for bird-watching, strolling the grounds, watching the sunrise over Mount Rainier, and more.

When it comes to where you can stay, you have two options, either the Cedar Cottage or Cedar Loft.

The Cedar Cottage is a standalone building that can fit up to four guests. It comes with a large queen bedroom, and a second bedroom featuring two single beds.

The Cedar Loft can sleep up to two guests and it comes equipped with a full kitchen, private bath, and wood stove.

You can’t go wrong with either room, it mostly depends on how many people you plan on bringing to this magical place. Both rooms cost $175 per two people making it more affordable than many Airbnbs. Keep in mind the stay is not pet friendly.

Enjoy!
