10 of the best things to do in Edmonton this long weekend (April 15-17)

Ok, maybe April really is the cruelest month. After a teaser of spring warmth, we’ve settled back into some chilly days here in Edmonton. Well, that’s alright, we’ve got some great options around the city anyway!

Here are the 10 best things to do in Edmonton this long weekend.

THE DOWNTOWN DEFROST

It’s easy to stay warm when you’re too busy dancing to care, and this outdoor/indoor music fest coming back to Edmonton is a great choice. Things kick off Friday, with multiple concerts lined up both at the event and for afterparties.

When: Starts Friday, April 15th
Where: 10004 103a Ave NW
Cost: $25+

RISE AGAINST

Meanwhile, one of the biggest names in punk music is in Edmonton this weekend, too! If you’re looking for some real high energy stuff to get you through the cold, then we might suggest you check this out.

When: Sunday, April 17th
Where: 9797 Jasper Avenue
Cost: $69.50

EDMONTON OILERS

The Oilers are running out of home games to see! That probably explains the high prices for their faceoff against the Vegas Golden Knights this weekend. But hey, still cheaper than what it’ll cost to see a playoff game when (not if) they make the cut!

When: Saturday, April 16th
Where: 10220 104 Avenue NW
Cost: $134+

ENCHANTED EASTER WEEKEND

Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without at least one Easter option. We’re going with the West Edmonton Mall plan, which will see various characters from A Charmed Affair roaming around to spread spring cheer and hand out treats!

When: Saturday, April 16th and Sunday, April 17th
Where: 8882 170 Street NW
Cost: Free

FILIPINO RESTAURANT MONTH

Brand new for 2022, this new nationwide food event has got some Edmonton names joining in! Go enjoy a delicious meal, enter the raffle, and maybe even win a trip to The Philippines themselves! Heck, we’re fine with just the meal part.

When: On throughout April
Where: Locations around Edmonton

ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA

The AGA has got a serious amount of stuff to check out in April. What’s more, the exhibition Don’t Ask Me Where I’m From, which focuses on post-migrant art, officially kicks off on Friday.

When: Friday, April 15th
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $14

THE HERD

A new show from the Citadel Theatre premiered last week! The premise? “Culture, science and politics collide when twin white bison are born to a First Nation ranch.” Sounds like a great way to spend an evening.

Cost: Varies

ROYAL ALBERTA MUSEUM

Vroom vroom! DRIVE: Reimagining the Ride is the newest feature exhibition to land at the RAM, and it focuses on the weirder side of automobile history. Ever wanted to see an amphicar up close and in person? This is your chance.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 9810 103a Avenue NW
Cost: Varies

SPONSORED PICK: SECRET BASEMENT PARTY AT HOME & AWAY

Take full advantage of the long weekend and get ready to dance the night away to some live DJ action at Home & Away! The 2-level party bar will transform into a giant house party starting tonight, for 3 nights straight. So instead of throwing a party in your parents basement and getting grounded as a grown adult, just head down there. No cover fees, only good vibes.

When: Starts Thursday, April 14th
Where: 10363 104 St NW

That’s what we’ve got in mind this weekend, Edmonton!
