You can live in a remote B.C. cabin for free this summer and here’s how

If you’re all about chasing backcountry adventures, BC Parks has a way for you to get the most out of your summer. The Backcountry Host Program offers outdoor lovers the chance to stay in a remote cabin or yurt for free, and applications are now open for this summer’s group of volunteers.

Backcountry hosts volunteer their time in B.C.’s beautiful backcountry at one of three popular hiking locations, greeting park visitors and providing them with location-specific information.

According to BC Parks, volunteers typically stay for one to four weeks at a time during the summer. Some responsibilities may vary by location, but all in all, it’s a pretty straightforward position—and a pretty sweet one if you’re hoping to take a break from city life.

“Whether you are a researcher, photographer, artist, blogger, or simply someone looking for a summer backcountry adventure, these positions are truly a one-of-a-kind experience,” says BC Parks.

If you’ve dreamed of living in a remote place surrounded by sparkling lakes, alpine meadows, and towering trees older than Canada itself, now is your chance.

Here’s where backcountry hosts can apply to live for the summer

Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so time is of the essence if you’re hoping to secure a spot. Each application form includes the contact email address you should use to submit your application.

Looking for more volunteer positions? BC Parks also routinely assigns park hosts, campground hosts, and ecological reserve wardens.

Your backcountry summer adventure awaits!
