What the price of an average home can buy you across Canada in March

We had so much fun writing the last one that we had to bring it back this month! As you may have seen, the CREA released the latest report of the average home price in Canada this week. Surprise, surprise! Prices climbed even higher in February, up some 4.6% from January to a whopping $816,720. So, let’s see what that chunk of change can do!

Here’s what the price of an average home can buy you across Canada this March. For simplicity’s sake, we set the cap at $820,000.

British Columbia

Vancouver – $818,000

While a townhouse or detached home is outta the question, the average home price in Canada can afford you a spot in one of the city’s most incredible buildings. You’ll get 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 521 square feet of living space, and a whole bunch of friends asking to come see the inside.

Summerland – $800,000

Maybe you’re thinking a move to the Okanagan might be a good choice. Well, not only does this Summerland a-frame for sale offer 4 beds, 2 baths and 2,380 square feet, but it’s also sitting on over 1.5 acres of land. Pair that with winery visits, trips to the lake, and nearby skiing, and you’ll be in vacay mode year-round.

At just two years old, this is the newest property to be featured on the list. This in-fill detached home features a farmhouse style design, and offers 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and 2,004 square feet of living space in a very accessible part of the city.

Toronto – $818,000

Like Vancouver, the focus for Toronto is definitely on location and amenities. Luckily, this development offers a wide range of them, including a sauna, indoor pool, a fitness centre, and rooftop patios to enjoy. With 2 beds and 2 baths, it’s a very solid option for those wanting downtown living.

Hamilton – $799,900

On the flipside, those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city might enjoy this spot in Hamilton. The renovated, 3-storey home comes with 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a backyard to relax in on those summer afternoons. Plus, you’re that much closer to wine country.

Quebec

Montreal – $778,000

We’ll just say it- when it comes to value in Canada’s major cities, Montreal might take top prize. This bungalow has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, was recently renovated, and comes with a heated pool to enjoy out back. Pair that with a below-average price point and it’s thumbs up all around.

Prince Edward Island

Hazelbrook – $795,000

On the flipside, those looking for home, and home alone, value might want to seriously consider a move to PEI. Just check out this stunning historic estate (built in 1875), that boasts 50 acres of land to enjoy. It’s now a PEI Heritage Place, so you can literally own a verified piece of history and a house at the same time.

Ok house hunters! That concludes our roundup for what the price of an average home can get you around Canada this March. These are pretty fun to write, so stay tuned for next month’s installment!
