An earthquake hit Banff over the long weekend, here’s how Twitter reacted

Those who took to the mountains to celebrate either the long weekend or Valentine’s Day got far more than just fresh air and room service; they also got hit with a 3.9 magnitude surprise on Saturday evening! If you were one of the “lucky” few, then you already know this, but Banff, Alberta actually got hit with an unsuspected earthquake, proving once again that this is Mother Nature’s world, we’re just living on it.

According to several publications, this was confirmed by Tami Mulder, a seismologist with the Geological Survey of Canada. In a statement to the CBC, she said that visitors and residents alike would have felt a slight rumbling around 6:33 pm on February 13th.

Will people, be on edge for a while? Probably, but luckily as of right now, no one reported any injuries and there was hardly any damage. This includes homes and businesses in the area, and for that, we can be thankful!

Although these things aren’t felt very often, Saturday’s incident definitely wasn’t the first and it likely won’t be the last. The last time Banff was hit with an earthquake was 6 years ago, but at a magnitude of 3.1, it was far less “earth-shattering” than even this one was.

Honestly, we’re just glad that everyone is okay. This really does just goes to show that anything can happen, especially in 2021, so expect the unexpected, friends!
