An Alberta storm is coming & some areas will get up to 30 cm of snow

Bundle up, folks, because while the calendar may say otherwise, the winter season is definitely here. With weather warnings issued around across the province, some are being advised of an Alberta storm that could bring in as much as 30 centimeters of snow. Here’s what to watch for in your area.

According to Environment Canada, western and upper central Alberta will likely see the worst of it – though cities like Red Deer and Edmonton will also be in for quite an afternoon.

With 300 mm of white stuff in the forecast, those who live and are visiting Jasper, Cold Lake, Banff, or the surrounding areas may want to spend the day indoors, cozied up next to a fireplace with a snow brush or blower within close proximity.

These areas will see the brunt of it and while it may look pretty – many will have one hell of a time getting from point A to B.

As we get closer to the heart of the province, wind gusts up to 110 km may hit cities like Lethbridge, Okotoks, High River and Waterton; and though Edmonton will only see 70/km – they will also get some serious powder – maybe the most they’ve seen in years!

Among the more metropolitan cities in Alberta, Edmonton will get hit the hardest by the snow – with 10-20 centimeters expected by the end of today.

Calgary on the other hand? Well, according to the Weather Network, somehow they’ll remain pretty much untouched – with some clouds and -1° in the forecast.

Of course, because we do live in the prairies, all of this could change on a dime – so please, keep an eye on the forecast and be sure to check it before heading out somewhere. It’s all about being safe, not sorry – especially because it’s been a while since we’ve seen conditions like this.

Be smart, drive slow and dress warm, Alberta! It has begun!
