A Calgary sanctuary wants your leftover Halloween pumpkins and here’s why

It’s that time of year again! The Alice Sanctuary is back with the annual pumpkin drop, and it’s officially one of the cutest things you can get up to this Halloween season.

Plus, it supports a good cause. The Alice Sanctuary is a registered charity that provides care and healing for rescued, surrendered, and abandoned farm animals near Calgary.

It’s in need of your leftover pumpkins this Halloween season, and your donation helps feed hungry residents.

At this ticketed event, you can drop off your lumpy Jack-o’-lanterns and enjoy a walk about the sanctuary.

Every pumpkin will be served as a tasty treat to the sanctuary’s residents.

It’s a win-win solution, one that will keep your doorstep clear as we transition into November.

What to expect

You can bring full or carved pumpkins to this animal-friendly event, but make sure your pumpkin has no paint, marker, staples, toothpicks, or wax on or in it.

The sanctuary wants to keep these treats as tasty as possible for the many rescued and abandoned animals who call it home.

The event will run on Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the morning drop, and 2 to 4 p.m. for the afternoon drop.

You’ll need to snag a ticket beforehand, and they’re limited, so make sure you act fast! All the proceeds will go directly to the sanctuary and its residents to help with its winter needs.

When you arrive, you can drop off your pumpkins and meet the over 200 animals who live at the sanctuary, including pigs, donkeys, cows, and goats.

Hot chocolate, coffee, and snacks will keep you warm throughout the event, and everything is vegan-friendly.

If your pumpkin has started to mold or rot, it’s too far gone. The City of Calgary’s green cart is a better place for it.

But if your pumpkin is wax-free and looking for a second life, this could be it!
