Alberta’s ‘World’s Largest Dinosaur’ finally gets a name for her 20th birthday

What did you get for your 20th birthday? To be honest, we don’t remember – but we know whatever it was, it wouldn’t have topped Drumeheller’s gift to their beloved – the World’s Largest Dinosaur.

This Badlands attraction has towered over the town since 2001 and this month, in celebration of its anniversary, they finally decided to give the old girl her very own name.

Now, it’s hard to believe that the larger-than-life dino didn’t already have an identifier before, but we suppose it’s never too late!

Tyra the T-Rex, as she is now formally known, weighs in at around 145,000 lbs and stands at an incredible 86 feet tall – 4.5 times larger than the actual dinosaur did.

If you guys have never climbed up the 106 stairs yourselves, it really is worth breaking a sweat. Now even more so, knowing how much history she has behind her.

Though we’re unsure as to why exactly they settled on the moniker, we’ve already kind of taken a liking to it and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her. Will the name actually catch on? We guess we’ll just have to stay tuned, won’t we?

Happy Birthday, Tyra!
