It’s time to say “Hello, Goodbye,” Alberta! This spring, several Safeway grocery stores will temporarily close across the province in order to be renovated and ready to reopen under the FreshCo umbrella.

For those who may not know, FreshCo Canada is a discount supermarket chain owned by the folks behind Sobey’s.

Each renovation will likely only take four to five months, meaning that your neighbourhood spot will probably be up and running again in the Fall of 2021.

Upcoming locations include:

  • Brentwood, Calgary, AB
  • Millbourne Mall, Edmonton, AB
  • Coliseum, Edmonton, AB
  • Palisades Square, Edmonton, AB
  • Gateway Village Mall, St. Albert, AB
  •  Saddle Ridge, Calgary, AB

Now,  we get it. Some of you may not like change, but we promise you can survive this! Though the many little things like the interior layout, signage and in-store brands may look different, the fundamentals, quality service and even their pharmacies will remain the same!

If you’re local to the Millbourne Mall, Coliseum, Palisades Square, Gateway Village Mall or Saddle Ridge location, it is extremely important to note that all dispensaries will remain open during the more minor reno’s. Then – when construction begins, customer files and employees will conveniently be carried over to a Safeway close by.

We’re not going to lie, it will be a little weird at first, but it’ll be no sweat after a few trips. We promise it’ll be all worth it in the long run!
