From bridges to schools, malls, towns and picture-perfect communities, film crews for HBO’s upcoming series The Last of Us have seen more of Alberta than most Albertans have in the last year – but production is far from over!
Based on the popular video game of the same name, the upcoming series will follow Joel, a smuggler as he escorts a young girl named Ellie across post-apocalyptic America after a mutating fungus has infected most of society.

Starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Narcos) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), cast, assistants and set designers have occupied several streets and cities across the province in hopes of bringing the beloved classic to life – and we might have word on where they’re currently filming!
This week, YYC Transportation took to Twitter to share that the westbound lane leading to Calgary’s Airport will be closed due to filming until March 16 at 5 am.

Though the city has not confirmed which of the few film/movie filming in YYC right now will be occupying the tunnel, fans of the series have pointed out that the location has shocking similarities to a very notable level in the game.
Of course, it’s only a matter of time until we know for sure as the series is set to debut in early 2023.
Until then, keep your eyes peeled, be respectful if you find yourself on or near a set and enjoy! It’s not every day that we have a production like The Last Of Us here in Alberta.
