There’s a new show in Calgary, but you’ve only got until the end of this weekend to catch it! “Ain’t Too Proud—The Life and Times of The Temptations” made its Broadway debut in March 2019 and quickly became a runaway hit.
It ended up snagging 12 Tony Award nominations and walking away with one for Best Choreography. And now, for only a few more days, this musical is rocking the stage right here in town.
On opening night at SAIT’s Jubilee Auditorium, “Ain’t Too Proud” the cast electrified a sold-out audience with the struggles and triumphs of The Temptations. A staple of Motown, the Temptations have long been synonymous with soul, and this musical puts that soul center stage— literally.

From the jump, it’s obvious that the show is a deep dive into one of music’s longest-standing legacies. The sharply dressed performers knock out harmonies that welcome the audience into a shared groove. You’d be hard-pressed to find a single person who isn’t foot-tapping or quietly singing along to classic hits like “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,” and, of course, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.”
Plus, there are a few surprise numbers not belonging to The Temptations discography that’ll have you grinning and humming simultaneously.
Naturally, the show is not just a curated playlist of the Temptations’ greatest hits. It does a masterful job of weaving in the narratives of the group members (of which there are plenty), blending some heart-tugging moments into the high-energy performances.
Whether you’re there for a nostalgic date night, a fun outing with friends, or a bonding session with family, there’s something in it for everyone. The giddy highs and somber lows hit every note, and musical lover or not, you’ll be in for one heck of a night.
You’ve got until Sunday, September 24th to catch this showcase in person, so do yourself a favour and snag some tickets now.
