A stunning new Vancouver tower to be world’s tallest ‘Passive House’

From wooden buildings to futuristic designs, Vancouver has really been ramping up the skyline over the past few years. And now, the world’s tallest ‘Passive House’ is coming to the city as well. This new, 60-storey skyscraper has been approved by city council and just needs to get permits in order before construction begins.

Before we dive in, you might be asking yourself what the term ‘Passive House’ means. We sure did. In a nutshell, a Passive House is a building that greatly increases energy efficiency. Planners consider everything from the type of ventilation and insulation used to the kind of lighting in the building. All said and done, Passive Houses are anywhere between 70% and 95% more efficient than standard buildings.

The new tower will be at 1075 Nelson Street, and will basically be neighbours with The Butterfly development. Designed by WKK Architects and the IBI Group, the tower will stand at a whopping 582 feet. Plus, it will have 480 homes across all income levels, from social housing units to the penthouse.

You can stay up to date on the Henson Developments website since that’s the company behind the building.
