Yes, you read that right, a floating concert is coming to Vancouver this weekend. This Saturday, the Festival Afloat concert will have its inaugural event just off of Jericho Beach. Curious about how to attend? We’ve got you covered with that info and more!
The concert is being put on by RAVEN Trust, which ‘raises legal defence funds for Indigenous Peoples in Canada to defend their rights and the integrity of lands and cultures’. This benefit concert is for the Heiltsuk Nation, which is in the midst of a legal challenge to tighten regulations about oil spills off the coast of BC. So, we suggest both purchasing a ticket (to support the artists) and donating directly to the cause, if you have the budget.

Performing at the concert is the Indigenous Women Rise Drum Circle, as well as the singer-songwriter Desirée Dawson, who has appeared on both CBC Radio and performed at the Vancouver Folk Fest, among other things. Dawson’s soulful, uplifting music is a perfect pick for what is sure to be a gorgeous setting.
Guests are invited to use any kind of paddle-powered boat they have or can rent, as well as stand-up paddleboards. While the exact location will be dependent on the waves and wind, but it will be within paddling distance of the Jericho Beach Sailing Centre.
If you have any issues finding it, don’t worry, just look for the giant wooden ship with a stage on it! Trust us, the floating concert in Vancouver is worth checking out.
