It’s been an odd past week of animal activity in Canada, and this time instead of a moose in a school, a bear joined in on the fun. Melanie Porter was sitting outside of her Quesnel, BC, home last Thursday when the unimaginable happened. A bear wanted to see if she had games on her phone.

Well not exactly, it’s hard to know just what this bear wanted. But Porter was scrolling her very bright phone when she noticed something approaching her out of the corner of her eye. To her surprise, the thing was a bear. And because it approached so quickly and was right in front of her, she didn’t have time to make a speedy getaway.

Here are some good news stories from across Canada this past week

Porter decided to stay still and the bear thought this was a perfect opportunity to get even closer and lick her. This was obviously very startling and before the bear could get a more meaty lick, Porter pulled her hand away which luckily startled the bear and sent it on its way. Before it left she managed to snap a short video which you can watch above.

All in all, a pretty impressive story to survive and a reminder to always be aware of your surroundings. Of course, this is a cautionary tale and it should go without saying but generally, wildlife is not this friendly.
