U-pick Ontario strawberry farms and fields to visit this summer

Strawberry season is one of the true markers of summer’s start, where these sweet red gems begin to ripen under the warm sun.

In Ontario, while the growing season is short, there are so many farms to visit and pick the berries right from the vine. Got your basket ready? Here’s where to berry pick this summer.

Tigchelaar Berry Farms

Take it to Tigchelaar Farms in Niagara Region to pick your own strawberries at this family-owned farm! Wander rows and rows of sun-warmed strawberries, and fill your basket up to your heart’s desire. The three-week-long season is expected to open mid-June, between the 15th and 20th.

Reesor’s Farm Market

Harvest your berries here at Reesor’s in Markham, available from mid-June to early July. This family-run farm, which can be traced back to the 1800s, also has ready-picked berries and vegetables, plus baked goods available for purchase. Don’t forget to come back to Reesor’s in the fall for pick-your-own pumpkins!

Barrie Hill Farms

Picking your own fruits and veggies is the name of the game here at the 200-acre Barrie Hill Farms, where there’s always something to pick every day for six months of the year. Mid to end of June is when the strawberries come out, but be sure to visit Barrie Hill again for pick-your-own peas, blueberries, raspberries, corn, apples, and more.

Walch Family Strawberries

Focused on growing high-quality, sweet, and nutritious local strawberries, you can pick your strawberries here at Walch Family or grab some already-picked berries — all berries sold are picked the same day. With a 45-year history, celebrate the best of the season in Stratford starting mid-June, depending on weather conditions.

Applewood Farm and Winery

Producing unique and award-winning fruit wines, cider, and mead for the last 25 years hasn’t stopped Applewood Farm and Winery from welcoming guests to its strawberry fields! Come one, come all to Seagrove, Ontario, and fill your basket with vine-ripened berries. Stick around for Applewood’s award-winning strawberry cider — a beautiful red-hued bubbly spritz.

Berry-tastic summer

Before you head out for your summer berry adventure, make sure you confirm the season has started! Most farms or patches charge a standard price per basket, and rules on pets often vary depending on where you’re going picking.

Happy strawberry season, Ontario!
