Weekend time! And while the forecast isn’t looking downright spectacular, it’s definitely nice enough for us to get out and about around the city. Plus, we’re sure that at least a few of us could use some Mother’s Day ideas and activities as well.

Here are the 10 best things to do in Edmonton this weekend.

U OF A BOTANIC GARDEN

Just in time for Mother’s Day, this stunning and massive botanic garden is reopening for the season! Easily one of our favourite, and also one of the most relaxing, day trips around the city.

When: Opens for the season on Saturday, May 7th
Where: 51227 AB-60, Parkland County
Cost: $19.75 for GA

MUTTART CONSERVATORY

Alternatively, we’ve got the Muttart Conservatory! This indoor botanical garden is the perfect option for those wanting to speedrun that summer feeling, just like a day at the waterpark (except much cheaper).

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 9626 96a Street NW
Tickets: $14.95 for GA

ROYAL BISON ART AND CRAFT FAIR

Whether you’re shopping for your mom or for yourself, you can’t go wrong. This twice-yearly event will see over 70 local vendors selling everything from books to ceramics to clothing. And of course, cheap entry just means more pocket change for you.

When: Starts Friday, May 6th
Where: 8426 Gateway Boulevard
Cost: $4 for GA

SHAKEY GRAVES

A little blues/indie/country mashup? You better believe. Shakey Graves may have made his bones with ‘Roll the Bones’ years ago, but he’s been producing some very nice, very easy listening music, ever since as well.

When: Saturday, May 7th
Where: 4 Sir Winston Churchill Square NW
Cost: $60.32

WATCH THE OILERS

Playoff hockey is maybe the most wonderful time of the year, and especially if the Oilers keep bringing the noise. Since they’re down in LA for the next 2 games, we suggest you take a look at the best places in the city to catch them on the screen!

When: Friday, May 6th and Sunday, May 8th

NORTHWESTFEST

Canada’s longest running nonfiction film fest returns to in-person experiences this month! However, those looking to enjoy the options at home will be pleased to know that they’re keeping the virtual side as well. And of course, it doesn’t hurt that single screenings are under $10!

When: Starts Thursday, May 5th
Where: Online and in-person options
Cost: $9.95+

ART ON THE BLOCK

Feeling extra fancy? Go rub shoulder with the city’s elite at the Alberta Gallery of Art’s signature fundraising event. You’ll get food, drinks, and of course, the chance to bid on a wide variety of art from both local and international names.

When: Friday, May 6th
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $150+

TRY A NEW RESTAURANT

Wouldn’t you know it… a ton of amazing new food and drink concepts have opened in the city! And we’ve rounded up our absolute must-try picks for your convenience, from casual eats to destination dining.

OR GRAB A BEER

Or heck, why not both? Edmonton’s brewery scene has absolutely exploded in the past decade, from niche shops to beautiful spaces. They’ve all got one thing in common though… we will always say yes when our friends ask if we wanna swing by.

FC EDMONTON

A lesser-known Battle of Alberta goes down this week! FC Edmonton will be taking on Calgary’s Cavalry FC on Friday, which means you get to combine some live sports with a little bit of fresh air. It’s a winning combo, and goodness gracious is the price right!

When: Friday, May 6th
Where: 11000 Stadium Road NW, Edmonton
Cost: $10.50+

That’s what we’ve got in mind for this weekend, Edmonton!
