Brrr… we’re already preparing mentally for a very cold weekend. But at the same time, we’re also excited to spread some holiday spirit! We think the latter’s going to win this weekend- especially because we’ve got some great ideas in mind about what you should get up to.

Here are 10 of the best things to do in Edmonton this weekend.

Of course, we gotta kick things off with a couple of Christmas options! The iconic Candy Cane Lane is a one-stop-shop for a magical stroll or drive, and has been so for decades. If you’re really ambitious, head down on foot to see em up close and personal.

Want to watch Christmas movies and support a local business? You can do so at Metro Cinema! On Friday, they’ll be showing Elf and It’s a Wonderful Life during back-to-back matinees. So, it’s either a tried and true Christmas classic, or a modern icon. The choice is yours!

Of course, we should also mention that there is no shortage of incredible new releases to check out at any Cineplex location. The new Spider-Man, a new Matrix movie, family favourites like Sing 2… the list goes on, and is sure to have something for any kind of movie fan.

Tickets: $14.95 for GA

Ok, these final few picks are for those who actually want to brave the cold. First up- the ACC Ice Wall, which arrived in the city last year and soon became a favourite for climbers of all abilities. After all, when else could you actually climb up a sheet of ice in a safe manner?

Don those extra layers and head to the ski hill for some Sunday hot laps? Why not! At those lows, we doubt there will be too many people standing around in the lift lines with you.

Maybe the most Christmas-y of all the outdoor options is a trip to your local pond/skating rink. And of course, our top pick is the Victoria Park Iceway. Just make sure you bundle up, and maybe have, oh we don’t know, like 4 litres of hot chocolate sitting in a thermos for when you get back to your car.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 12030 River Valley Road NW
