Welcome to the end of the weekend, Edmonton! While we might be bummed that it’s over, we take solace in knowing we’ve got a whole week of fun ahead. Take advantage of some late-summer weather, or see what indoor options tickle your fancy.

Here’s our list of things to do around Edmonton this week.

GO ON A GHOST TOUR

Ready to dip your toes into spooky season? One great way to do it is with Edmonton Ghost Tours. Explore different parts of the city, while learning about the less-than-savoury parts of Edmonton’s history.

When: Tours throughout the week
Where: All around Edmonton
Cost: Varies per tour

OR CHECK OUT A HAUNTED HOUSE

If you’d rather jump headfirst, you can do that too! The super-popular Deadmonton Haunted House returns this week, with not one but two super scary experiences. Warped is their main attraction, and offers a twisted look at Area 51, while Dusk is an outdoor experience inspired by a New Orleans cemetery haunt.

When: Starts Friday, September 24th
Where: 7031 Gateway Boulevard
Cost: $29.99+

HEAD TO THE THEATRE

Feeling a little more culture this week? You’ll be happy to know that a new show is on at the Citadel Theatre! The Garneau Block is an adaptation of the book written by Todd Babbiak, and is a look at the ‘knowable citizens’ of the city told through various stories.

When: Showtimes throughout the week
Where: 9828 101 A Avenue
Cost: Varies

IMAGINE VAN GOGH

For a lot of culture, and on a massive scale, Imagine Van Gogh is the answer. This immersive exhibition shows off over 200 of the iconic artist’s works using state-of-the-art technology. No, you won’t actually get to see The Starry Night in person, but this is a great alternative to flying to New York about it.

When: Open until September 26th
Where: 7515 118 Avenue NW
Cost: $41.61 and up for GA

TELUS WORLD OF SCIENCE

While we wouldn’t hesitate to check out the Telus World of Science for the exhibits, it’s not what we seek it out for. Nope, not since the arrival of the state-of-the-art Zeidler Dome and the return of laser shows set to crazy music. Trust us- this can be just as fun as a rave, if you can sit still that long.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 11211 142 Street NW
Cost: $31.45 for GA

SOLVE THE EDMONTON CORN MAZE

When the leaves start to change colour, that’s when you know it’s time to visit the ol’ corn maze. It’s like the perfect early fall activity, and we’ve got perfect early fall weather to enjoy it! Ask your friends, we’re sure at least one of them is ready to frolic in a field this weekend.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 26171 Garden Valley Road, Spruce Grove
Cost: $13.50+ for GA

DRIVE OUT TO THE GARDEN

On a similar note, we think that the U of A Botanic Garden is best enjoyed during the spring or the fall. For fall visits, we get to see the leaves turn magical shades of orange and red, and the weather can be perfect for a leisurely stroll. Need a reason to visit? Keep in mind the Fall Family Festival‘s ongoing events!

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: Parkland County, Alberta
Cost: $18.75 for GA

COMMUNE WITH A COUPLE OF BISON

To complete the outdoor trio, we love a late summer/early fall trip out to Elk Island. Of course, that weekend walk is made all the sweeter if you actually get to see some bison up close and personal, but either way, it’s a great time. After all, they’re just 1 of hundreds of species living in the park!

When: Open throughout September
Where: 54401 Range Road 203, Fort Saskatchewan
Cost: $7.90 for admissions

WATCH A MOVIE

Sometimes, it’s nice to just hang out and catch a movie at the local cinema. And to do it, we suggest heading to the Metro Cinema, which has a great mix of recent releases and cult classics showing every week.

When: Showtimes throughout the week
Where: 8712 109 Street
Cost: $13

ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA

Good news, art lovers! A new exhibition has arrived at the Art Gallery of Alberta! Titled ROYGBIV, this group show focuses on the use and impact of colours. If you find yourself staring at Rothko prints more often than you’d like, this is right up your alley.

When: Open Thursday to Sunday weekly
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $14

That’s what we’ve got in mind this week, Edmonton!
