Welcome to the end of the weekend, Edmonton! We’ve got another week of fun ahead of us, and we know that we’re going to make the most of it. Care to join in? Not a problem- we’re sharing our top picks with you!

Here are 10 things to do around Edmonton this week.

GREAT OUTDOORS COMEDY FESTIVAL

The first festival we want to talk about this week is also the funniest! The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival features a ton of local talent, plus headliners like Chelsea Handler and David Spade. If you’re hoping for a little comic relief this summer, this is our top pick.

When: Friday, August 13th
Where: Edmonton Exhibition Lands Racetrack Infield
Cost: $69+ per person

TOGETHER WE FRINGE

For a more local flare, you should definitely check out Together We Fringe, put on by the Edmonton Fringe Theatre. This 10-day long event features a mix of both in-person and virtual events, ranging from magic shows to 1-person plays and even some dramatic shows.

When: Starts Thursday, August 12th
Where: Venues around Edmonton and online
Cost: Varies per event

WATCH A PLAY

Speaking of live entertainment, the Citadel Theatre has returned! All week long you can catch Heaven, a play about a Black pioneer woman settling in Amber Valley, Alberta. It’s been a long time since we’ve been inside the Citadel Theatre, and we look forward to returning!

When: Showtimes throughout the week
Where: 9828 101A Avenue
Cost: $55.91

OR A MOVIE

If you need a little more relaxed choice, Edmonton’s movie theatres have reopened! All of the Cineplex locations are back, but we usually check out what’s playing at local theatres like the Metro Cinema first. Why? Because we’re film buffs, that’s why.

When: Showtimes throughout August
Where: 8712 109 Street NW
Cost: $13

GO FOR A SCOOP OF ICE CREAM

Ice cream is our go-to as a sweet treat to beat the heat. Best paired after a day trip or another outdoor activity, a trip for a delicious scoop of ice cream is something we can’t go without. Especially when somewhat healthier options (like plant-based) are available.

HEAD TO THE ZOO

What’s new at the zoo? Well, you’ll have to see for yourself! All of their exhibits are now open, which means you get to enjoy some fun in the sun before cooling off in like the reptile house or something. Either way, it’s a great option for an afternoon adventure!

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 13315 Buena Vista Road
Cost: $10.95 (reduced price)

STEP INTO THE PAST

The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village has returned for the summer. This expertly preserved cultural village offers an authentic look at the lives of settlers during the late 19th/early 20th century. Sure, it’s a little bit of a curveball for a pick, but we like it!

When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: Highway 16 E, Lamont County
Cost: $15 for GA

MUTTART CONSERVATORY

It was a long time coming, but the Muttart Conservatory has returned to the city! This iconic Edmonton attraction is a must-do on those less than stellar summer days. Heck, we even like visiting when the sun is sharing, and especially if it’s paired with a walk in the park before or after.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 9626 96a Street NW
Tickets: $14.95 for GA

FORT EDMONTON PARK

Like the Muttart Conservatory, Fort Edmonton Park park closed down for some (even more serious) renovations, and this is the summer where we get to enjoy them! From an updated midway to brand new things like an Indigenous Peoples Experience, this is going to be amazing to visit once more.

When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: 7000 143 Street NW
Cost: $26.20 for GA

HEAD BACK TO THE ART GALLERY

One relaxing and nice way to beat the heat this week is with a trip to the Art Gallery of Alberta, which officially reopened after an extended closure that started last winter. If you need a different kind of summer fun, then a quiet visit to an A/C controlled art gallery is always nice.

When: Open Thursday to Sunday
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $14 for GA

That’s what we’ve got in mind this week, Edmonton!
